What's on the menu...

Phonetics anyone?

Hello fellow teachers. First confession, I'm deviating from my original plan, as I promised to start this blog to comment on a linguistics article. That gets me to my second confession, I'm a procrastinator. I must empathize with everyone. To juggle our teaching duties with our college class schedule is not easy. Now, for the sake of doing what I originally set out to do, I will kind of improvise. Professor Luna suggested we use our blogs as an anecdotical diary of our tramplings with the class and that's how this entry came to be.

I concur with our professor that phonetics and phonology are some of the least interesting aspects of Linguistics. Semantics, pragmatics and sociolinguistics were more interesting to me. Any which way you look at it, there are cumbersome aspects to linguistics that can get one feeling a bit impatient. Who wants to know all those tidbits on the mechanics, the rules, etc, that produce a particular language. I say, you gotta love it.

No more promises then. I need to read or else I can not write. I hope everyone finds the time to get their work done. See ya soon!

  1. you said the magic word "TIME", right now it seems to me that God its changing the normal course of a day because I am running out of time in every task i have. My hands are always full and every one has an evil plan to give me more things to do!!! lol but I have to stop complaining and start working so wish me luck...

  4. Olga, always thinking about food.
Sidney, I emphatize with you. I must confess I am also a procrastinator and that gets me into trouble sometimes. But then again, since the "time factor" is always running against me, then I guess I need that "last minute rush" to get things going. The important thing is to do what we got to do even if it is at our phase. By the way, it's always a pleasure to read your blog entries. As you said in your self-evaluation, you are always helping others, and that includes you giving very interesting advice in your comments. Keep up the good work!
